Braze / THE WORLD THEY ARE BUILDING

Every message arrives with a reason.

The local data-center and KakaoTalk launch make Korean delivery needs more concrete. The opportunity is timely, coordinated communication; business value still requires meaningful messages and sound measurement.

KakaoStyle

Connect messaging evidence to purchase analysis

Braze’s case reports a 35% increase in monthly app traffic.

The case describes using Currents for event export and combining warehouse data with CRM messaging, including push, in-app and Kakao channels.

What changed? +

KakaoStyle needed to understand engagement alongside member-level purchases and operate campaigns across several channels.

JobKorea

A CRM manager runs personalized campaigns without waiting for developers

The manager reports average click-through rates 4 to 5 times higher than before for audiences of similar size.

With Braze the CRM manager builds segments, messages personalized with Liquid, the template language Braze uses, and A/B tests directly, and shares conversion reports with other teams. The consulting partner Team Maxonomy supported onboarding.

What changed? +

JobKorea's growth team used system pushes and pop-ups that showed sends, impressions and clicks but stopped short of conversions, and every detailed segment or test needed developer time.

02 / HOW IT BECOMES REAL

From customer behavior to a measured journey

Illustrative commerce workflow using data activation, Canvas and messaging.

  1. 01

    Collect usable customer signals

Teams connect customer attributes and events to the data platform. A coherent profile gives journey logic more useful context than an isolated channel list.

  2. 02

Define the next branch in Canvas

Marketers build a journey based on actions and conditions. A purchase or response can change the next step instead of leaving every customer in a fixed sequence.

  3. 03

    Choose the appropriate channel

Cross-channel messaging connects the journey to email, mobile and other supported channels. Korea’s KakaoTalk launch adds a locally relevant way to reach customers.

  4. 04

Return response data to the analytical loop

The KakaoStyle case describes Currents streaming response events to AWS S3 and a warehouse. Teams connect engagement and purchase evidence to review the campaign.

Follow the work, step by step

A customer who just bought should not get the discount

Braze starts from a problem anyone who shops on a phone has seen. A brand reaches the same person through app pushes, email, text messages and chat apps, often from separate tools run by separate teams, so each message ignores the last one and what the customer just did. A representative of Remember, the Korean business networking service, described life before Braze this way: each department sent texts, pushes and emails from its own admin page or tool, so results were hard to measure and the work hard to run. Braze's answer is one platform that holds the customer's data, decides the next step and sends it in the channel that fits. Its APAC vice president, Shahid Nizami, put it simply in August 2025: Braze checks once more just before a message goes out, for example whether the customer has already bought.

it’s not really their customer relationship.

Bill Magnuson · Co-founder and CEO, Braze · Letter published on the day Braze listed on Nasdaq · 2021-11-17

Own the relationship, act in the moment

The belief is older than the AI products. In the letter he published when Braze listed on Nasdaq in November 2021, co-founder and CEO Bill Magnuson wrote that an always-on consumer expects a brand to understand their context and act on it in the moment. The commercial logic follows. A brand that meets its customers through someone else's platform does not really own the relationship, so the valuable relationships rest on first-party data, what a brand learns from its own customers, and on direct contact. That is why Braze describes its job as helping brand teams adjust campaigns to customer reactions in real time, rather than as sending more messages.

Why now: more channels, then AI

Two changes made the bet bigger than mobile. First, the channels multiplied: Braze's pricing page lists email, push, SMS, MMS and RCS, WhatsApp, KakaoTalk, LINE and in-app formats, and Naver Webtoon's US platform lead told a Seoul audience in April 2024 that push consent was falling and the US team was turning to multichannel marketing. Second, AI made one-to-one decisions practical. In 2025 Braze bought OfferFit, an AI decisioning company, for $325M in cash and stock; its agents replace the manual work of A/B testing with reinforcement learning that experiments and learns on its own. On its September 2026 earnings call Braze argued that lasting value in AI sits in the data, workflow and feedback around a model, and said "the market has just found a word for what Braze has spent 15 years building for marketers."

Following one customer through the loop

An illustrative path shows where each part sits. Take the CRM team of a Korean shopping app. Connect: engineers and marketers agree which events matter, such as sign-up, browsing and purchase, and send them with profile attributes to the Braze Data Platform, which can also build audiences straight from a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake or BigQuery without copying the data. Design: a lifecycle marketer draws the journey in Canvas, a drag-and-drop editor whose branches change the next step according to what each customer does. Deliver: the journey sends through the channel that fits, KakaoTalk included since April 2026. Measure: results flow back. KakaoStyle, which runs the ZIGZAG app, streams Braze response events into its own AWS data warehouse and joins them with membership levels and purchase history to judge each campaign.

The human part has moved rather than disappeared. JobKorea's CRM manager says Braze let the CRM team build personalized messages and A/B tests without queuing behind developers. The AI products announced in September 2026 go further: agents pick the message variant, time, day and frequency for each recipient, within guardrails the marketers set, and Magnuson says the point is to leave marketers free for "creativity, ambition, and judgment."

Braze sells a way of working, not a send button. Whether the Seoul seat is in sales or customer success, the daily conversation with Korean CRM teams is the same: how to connect their own data, how to design journeys that react to behavior, and how to prove results in numbers a finance team accepts, often with the reseller who set them up in the room.

Understand the products and their customers

Three parts of one loop

Braze sells one platform, and it reads best as three parts that match the loop. The Braze Data Platform brings customer data in: it syncs from Amazon Redshift, Databricks, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, Microsoft Azure and AWS S3, builds audiences from a cloud warehouse without copying the data, and offers 180+ ready-made partner integrations. Canvas decides what happens next: marketers draw journeys in a drag-and-drop editor, branch them on real-time behavior, and can compare 100+ message variants in one experiment. Messaging delivers, across email, push, SMS, MMS and RCS, WhatsApp, KakaoTalk, LINE and in-app formats. Data and CRM teams buy the first part, lifecycle marketers work in the second, campaign teams run the third. On its September 2026 call Braze said 87% of its large customers use the Data Platform and 91% have adopted Canvas, which is the sign that customers buy the loop rather than one tool.

KakaoTalk as a native channel

For Korea the channel list matters as much as the feature list. In April 2026 Braze launched a KakaoTalk messaging channel and said brands can now reach about 49 million KakaoTalk users directly through Braze. Its Korean product article explains ChinguTalk (친구톡), the message a brand sends to users who follow its KakaoTalk channel, and puts KakaoTalk's reach in Korea at 97%. A Kakao executive, quoted in the launch release, said the integration should widen brands' ability to engage customers. Korean teams were already measuring KakaoTalk alongside Braze before the launch: KakaoStyle's case, published in 2025, combined results from push, in-app and KakaoTalk Channel messages in one analysis.

The AI layer on top

BrazeAI sits on top. Its core is Decisioning Studio, the product built from OfferFit, where reinforcement learning agents experiment for each customer with the message variant, time of day, day of the week and frequency, within guardrails the marketer sets. It earned $6.6M of revenue in the quarter to 31 July 2026. The company's published transcript reports use-case pricing of roughly $250,000 to $300,000, and Braze is adding a self-service version, Decisioning Studio Go, paid through Action Credits with a lower upfront cost. Paid adoption of Braze's AI tools reached roughly one third of its large customers in that quarter, the company said. At its Forge conference in September 2026 Braze announced a beta of Operator Connect, which puts Braze inside assistants such as Claude, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. The September 29 release says the new capabilities are in beta; Decisioning Studio Go and Agentic Standards were expected to become generally available in October.

KakaoStyle, which runs ZIGZAG, struggled to see quickly which message designs worked best. It now streams Braze response events into its AWS warehouse, joins them with membership and purchase data, and reports 35% more monthly app traffic. JobKorea's CRM manager runs segmentation, Liquid personalization and A/B tests without developer help and reports average click-through rates 4 to 5 times higher for audiences of similar size. Naver Webtoon's US service runs 433 campaigns a month on Braze; its lead told a Seoul audience in April 2024 that CRM effort fell by at least 60% and click-through rose 2.5 to 3 times. Remember, through AB180, and 11st, through CJ OliveNetworks, describe adoption: one place for app push, email and text, and messages based on shopping history instead of random sends.

Each Korean result is reported by the vendor, the customer or a partner, and each measures traffic, clicks or effort rather than sales. Most cases also run through a partner: AB180 for KakaoStyle and Remember, Team Maxonomy for JobKorea, CJ OliveNetworks for 11st. A seller in Seoul can use them as proof that Korean teams get value, and should be ready for a buyer who asks what happened to revenue.

Read the growth story

Who pays, and for what

Brands pay Braze, mostly through subscriptions: subscription revenue was 91% of the quarter to 31 July 2026, and the rest included recurring premium professional services plus one-time onboarding and configuration. The price rises with reach. Each of the four editions, from Braze Go to Braze Enterprise, scales with the brand's monthly active users, the people who interact with it in a month, and the brand buys a pool of Action Credits that it spends across channels and some AI products. The annual filing puts it plainly: Braze grows as its customers grow, because pricing rests largely on the number of consumers reached and the volume of messages sent. It calls the approach land and expand: start with a product that is easy to adopt, then widen use. Braze sells mainly through its own sales force, with a joint venture in Japan and resellers in certain markets; its May 2024 announcement described years of serving Korean customers through resellers.

The numbers, and what each one measures

Revenue is what Braze recognized in a period: $738.2M for the fiscal year to 31 January 2026, up 24.4%, and $227.2M for the quarter to 31 July 2026, up 26.2%. In September 2026 Braze raised its revenue outlook for the fiscal year ending January 2027 to $910.0M to $913.0M. ARR is the annualized invoiced value of customer subscription contracts, including certain premium services under subscription terms, assuming contracts expiring in the next 12 months renew on existing terms. Braze passed $800M early in fiscal 2027. Remaining performance obligations stood at $1,092.5M on 31 July 2026. The reported 110% dollar-based net retention is the trailing 12-month weighted average of monthly cohort ARR comparisons after expansion, contraction and attrition, excluding new customers. It is an ARR measure rather than cash collected; the large-customer measure was 112%.

Profit is improving, and the answer depends on how it is counted. In the July quarter Braze reported a GAAP operating loss of $18.1M, which includes $35.7M of stock-based compensation, alongside non-GAAP operating income of $22.0M and free cash flow of $21.7M. For fiscal 2026 the GAAP operating loss was $144.8M and free cash flow was $58.1M. Braze held $413.9M of cash, cash equivalents, restricted cash and marketable securities on 31 July 2026.

Where the growth comes from

Most of the growth now comes from bigger accounts. On 31 July 2026, 361 customers had ARR of $500,000 or more, up from 282 a year earlier, and they made up 65% of ARR, up from 62%. Total customers grew to 2,789 from 2,422. Braze said on its September 2026 call that bookings came from brands moving off "legacy marketing clouds" and consolidating vendors, and procurement through AWS Marketplace, where customers spend cloud commitments they already hold, grew more than 80% in fiscal 2026. Outside the United States, about 45% of revenue by his February 2025 account, he credits regional partners that are "growing super-fast through tight partnership with us."

Bill Magnuson · Co-founder and CEO, Braze · Q2 fiscal 2027 earnings call · 2026-09-08

Rivals and position

The annual filing names Adobe, Salesforce, Iterable and Klaviyo as competitors. Braze reports that Gartner named it a Leader in the 2026 Magic Quadrant for Multichannel Marketing Hubs, for the fourth year running, placed highest for ability to execute. In Korea the contest has a local shape. Braze's own launch release says Korean companies faced a trade-off: local tools struggled with integrated channels and global marketing, while global platforms lacked data localization and KakaoTalk support. Local rivals compete on speed. Inbito markets its AI service as a "한국형 Braze", a Korean-style Braze, that skips the long setup of foreign tools.

Keep the measures apart: say revenue for the $738.2M, ARR for the $800M and RPO for the $1,092.5M, and never add them up. Mind the calendar too: Braze's fiscal year ends on 31 January, so fiscal 2027 runs from February 2026 to January 2027.

The decisions behind the company

Three founders and a hackathon

Bill Magnuson studied computer science at MIT and finished his undergraduate degree in 2009. He worked at Google, which he told CNBC in 2017 showed him the scale and impact of technology at work, and he launched Appboy, the company now called Braze, at 23. The founding team came together at a New York hackathon in 2011, where Magnuson and Jon Hyman met their third co-founder, Mark Ghermezian. Braze listed on Nasdaq in November 2021. Today Magnuson is co-founder and CEO, listed on the September 2026 earnings call as Executive Chairman of the Board, President and CEO, and Hyman is co-founder and CTO.

Four decisions that shaped the company

Four choices explain the company a Korea hire would join. It built for the long relationship rather than the single campaign: in 2018 Magnuson said a typical enterprise contract ran to six figures and that Braze wanted clients on long-term plans aimed at lasting engagement. It went abroad early: in a recording published in February 2025 he said about 45% of revenue came from outside the United States, a share he put in the high thirties to early forties since well before the listing. It priced on reach and volume, so revenue grows as customers' audiences and sends grow. And in 2025 it bought its AI decision layer rather than waiting to build it, paying $325M for OfferFit.

The leaders around the Korea seats

Several leaders shape the Seoul roles. Ed McDonnell is chief revenue officer; in March 2026 Magnuson credited the go-to-market team under him with a meaningful improvement in sales productivity, and in September 2026 McDonnell spoke for the new AWS agreement. Astha Malik, chief business officer, was the executive quoted when Braze announced its Seoul presence in May 2024, describing the planned local teams, in-market leadership hires and office openings as a growth opportunity. The official December 2023 welcome introduces Shahid Nizami, who joined as vice president of sales for APAC in December 2023, after two decades in APAC with companies such as Google, Oracle and HubSpot, most recently as general manager and regional vice president of sales for Asia Pacific and Japan at ActiveCampaign; in April 2026 he presented the Korea launch in Seoul as APAC vice president. Korean press named 고주연 as Korea country manager (한국 지사장) at the March 2025 Seoul conference and in an August 2025 interview. In a February 2025 interview, then-chief product officer Kevin Wang explained Braze’s product competition. Pearce Dolan became chief product officer on August 24, 2026. The official April 2026 Seoul recap gives Nizami’s broader title as Vice President of Sales for APAC and GCC.

How Braze says it works and hires

Magnuson describes a habit of push-based transparency: any employee, anywhere, can see the strategy in detail, how success is defined and measured, and how the company is doing against its targets. He also says the company talks a lot about being "on the right side of history": a smaller company facing larger incumbents has to call where the market is going correctly more often than not. The annual filing lists six values, from Take Your Seat at the Table to Be a Human. Braze's postings ask applicants to set a high bar for themselves and those around them, name autonomy, accountability and openness to new perspectives as essential, and say that AI tools help screen applications, with an opt-out and with recruiters responsible for every hiring decision.

Signet reads the Korea roles as local commercial responsibility connected to the regional business. The Sales Director posting asks the hire to represent the business within senior leadership and help expand Braze in APAC. The customer-success role is the main Braze Customer Success contact for South Korea and owns relationships across the reseller ecosystem. Public activity includes the 2026 Seoul conference, infrastructure and KakaoTalk announcements. Ask how the role's decisions, quota and customer responsibilities connect to the regional leadership and the partner network.

Why Korea? Why now?+

Braze came to Korea in two steps, and its own words explain both. For years it reached Korean brands through resellers: AB180 since 2017, with customers such as Interpark.com and Zigzag. In May 2024 it chose to put its own people in Seoul, tying the move to messaging apps such as KakaoTalk that it said were growing in these markets. Braze's April 2026 release names the obstacle that held back large Korean buyers: local tools were weak on integrated channels and global marketing, global platforms on data localization and KakaoTalk. A survey Braze ran with AB180 found that 73% of Korean marketers saw data security as the biggest barrier to personalization. The Korea data center on AWS and the KakaoTalk channel answer both objections. Signet's reading: with those answered, the constraint is people who can sell and serve directly, which is what the two Seoul postings are for.

Understand the Korea opportunity

Years through partners, then a direct bet

Braze sold in Korea long before it had its own people there. AB180 says it has been Braze's official reselling partner since 2017, supplying licenses and consulting, and Braze's May 2024 release says it had worked with Korean customers through reseller networks for several years, naming Interpark.com and Zigzag. On 16 April 2024 Braze held its first conference in Seoul, with Magnuson among the announced speakers. On 15 May 2024 it announced a direct presence in Seoul, with plans for local teams and an office, as part of a push into São Paulo, Bucharest, Dubai and Seoul. The same release tied the move to messaging apps such as KakaoTalk, LINE and WhatsApp, which it said were gaining popularity especially in these markets.

Korean companies have needed a balance of localized features and the strong infrastructure of a global platform.

Shahid Nizami · APAC Vice President, Braze · Braze Korea press release, reported in Korean; translated by Signet · 2026-04-08

Two local objections, answered in 2026

Braze's Korean release of 8 April 2026 names the problem it set out to fix. Korean companies that chose a local tool ran into limits on integrated channels and global marketing; those that chose a global platform lacked data localization and KakaoTalk support. Braze's answer was a data center in Korea running on AWS and a KakaoTalk messaging channel, presented to the press in Seoul by Nizami. A survey Braze and AB180 published in August 2025 shows why data weighs on buyers: 73% of about 200 Korean marketers named data security concerns as the biggest barrier to personalization, and only 12% used AI-based tools. In September 2026 the CEO listed Korea among the places Braze had opened data centers with AWS, and the AWS agreement release says Braze is now available in the AWS South Korea region.

Who is on the ground

The Seoul office sits in JustCo Tower on Teheran-ro in Gangnam. Korean press named 고주연 as Korea country manager at Grow With Braze Seoul in March 2025, which about 500 Korean brand marketers attended by AB180's count, and again in August 2025, when the country manager joined Nizami's interview at AB180's MGS conference. Nizami, who has led APAC sales since December 2023, fronts the Korea announcements. Around them sits a partner network that sells licenses and consulting: AB180; CJ OliveNetworks, which brought Braze to 11st in February 2026; Martini.io, named a reseller in December 2025, which calls the status hard to get; and Team Maxonomy, JobKorea's consulting partner. In April 2026, the official Seoul conference recap also identifies local solutions-consulting and customer/partner-training work. These public job functions and the October hiring list describe activity, rather than a complete reporting chart.

What the two open roles are for

On 8 October 2026 Braze's own job board listed 339 openings worldwide and two in Seoul: Sales Director, South Korea, first posted on 25 August 2026, and Senior Customer Success Manager, first posted on 28 July 2026. The Sales Director leads the Enterprise and Commercial sales teams in South Korea, owns the Enterprise Direct business, works closely with resellers and carries the quota for new and existing business. The customer success manager works primarily with resellers, drives renewals and net retention across several partners at once, has to remain "a neutral, even-handed partner across our full reseller ecosystem", and becomes the main point of contact for Braze Customer Success in Korea. On the September 2026 call Magnuson said Braze had started a hiring push for seller capacity.

we are starting the hiring push

Bill Magnuson · Co-founder and CEO, Braze · Q2 fiscal 2027 earnings call · 2026-09-08

Signet reads the postings as two complementary forms of local ownership: enterprise sales that works with resellers, and customer success that keeps partner-served customers renewing and adopting. Both work across Braze and its partner network. The 2024 direct-presence plan, April 2026 infrastructure and native-channel announcement, and September AWS agreement provide a sequence of local investment. The work for each hire is specific: align account ownership, explain integrations to buyers, and make customer value visible in renewals and expansion. Two open roles describe hiring demand, not the size or maturity of the existing team.

More context on what comes next

Growth sped up, and it is concentrated

Read against the thesis, the past year has three threads. The first is growth. Revenue rose 30% in the quarter to April 2026 and 26.2% in the quarter to July, and Braze raised its fiscal 2027 outlook to $910.0M to $913.0M. More of it comes from large accounts: customers with ARR of $500,000 or more now make up 65% of ARR. The share price still fell 5% the day after the September 2026 results, even though, an outside analysis noted, the company beat on every line.

AI became a product line

The second thread is AI. OfferFit closed in June 2025 and became Decisioning Studio, which brought in $6.6M of revenue in the July quarter. At Forge, Braze's customer conference in Las Vegas from 28 to 30 September 2026, Braze announced a beta self-service version paid through Action Credits and a connector that puts Braze inside AI assistants. Braze said paid adoption of its AI tools reached roughly one third of its large customers in that quarter. The cost shows in the margin: the interim chief financial officer tied a lower gross margin partly to Decisioning Studio staff. The new release distinguishes beta availability from the expected October general availability of Decisioning Studio Go and Agentic Standards.

Korea moved from plan to infrastructure

The third thread is Korea. The April 2026 data-center announcement and KakaoTalk launch made the 2024 plan concrete; the April recap expected the center in June. The AWS agreement described on the September call and announced at Forge runs for three years and sets up a co-sell motion in which AWS sellers have incentives to bring Braze into their accounts, and the release lists the AWS South Korea region among those where Braze now runs. For a reader in Korea this is the thread that matters most: the infrastructure is in place, and the next year shows whether direct enterprise deals and named Korean customers follow.

in places like Korea, Indonesia, Australia, Japan.

  • Whether the two Seoul seats are filled, and whether Braze starts naming Korean enterprise customers it signed directly.
  • Whether Korean customers announce use of the Korea data center or the KakaoTalk channel.
  • Whether AI revenue keeps growing without pulling the gross margin further down.
