Moloco / THE WORLD THEY ARE BUILDING

Big-platform ad prediction, sold to everyone else.

If the bet holds, independent apps, retailers and streaming services earn from their own audiences with the kind of prediction the largest platforms use, and Moloco becomes the listed company that runs that engine for them.

Musinsa

Bring users back, then turn visits into purchases

During its largest summer promotion: cost per active session 10% and 22% better than two other DSPs; video creatives 2.5x more efficient than images; users attributed to both products had 66% higher ARPPU than non-attributed users.

With the agency Madup it split users into active, semi-active and inactive cohorts in Moloco Ads, deep-linked each to its own event page, and showed returning users Product Ads powered by Moloco Commerce Media inside the app.

What changed? +

Musinsa had a large user base but needed more frequent visits from existing and dormant users at a controlled cost per session, and more exposure for its partner brands.

Nexon

Test whether TV ads bring new players

By Nexon's analysis of a January 2026 campaign: up to 3x higher incremental lift in new sign-ups and 1.6x in returning users compared with attribution-based results.

Moloco's data scientists ran a randomized controlled trial with ghost bidding: ads went only to the test group, while ghost bids for the control group kept auction conditions the same.

What changed? +

Nexon wanted to know whether connected TV could bring new users to a live-service game, but household-level TV exposure did not match its account-level measurement.

Moloco-published case dated 11 May 2026, based on Nexon's own analysis of one campaign period.

02 / HOW IT BECOMES REAL

How an app campaign runs on Moloco Ads

An app marketer starts with a business goal and a daily budget; Moloco's engine turns them into millions of individual bids.

  1. 01

    Choose the outcome

The marketer picks the event that matters, such as a purchase, a deposit or a subscription, and sets a budget. A new campaign needs at least $300 a day so the models receive enough signal.

  2. 02

    Connect measurement and creatives

The marketer links a mobile measurement partner such as AppsFlyer, Adjust or Airbridge and uploads creatives. What the measurement partner reports back is what the engine learns from.

  3. 03

    Price each impression

For each ad request from more than 35 exchanges or the Moloco SDK, CARA predicts the chance of an install, a conversion and later spending, then sets a bid for a first-price auction. This happens within tens of milliseconds.

  4. 04

    Select and render the creative

CARA picks or assembles the creative most likely to work for this user and context. Through the SDK it can tune individual ad components at the moment of the impression.

  5. 05

    Report, retrain and test

Outcomes flow back, and updated models reach production as often as every two hours. The marketer reads results by publisher, placement and creative in Ads Manager, and for bigger questions Moloco's data scientists help design incrementality tests.

Follow the work, step by step

Two thirds of screen time, outside the big platforms

Moloco starts from something its chief executive saw while building ad systems inside Google. Ikkjin Ahn joined YouTube around 2008, when he says the team had about 80 people, built its video profitability prediction system and later led the Android data team as its founding tech lead manager. He says that mixing machine learning with the economics he had studied lifted ad returns there by more than 50%. When he looked at where people actually spent their digital time, he concluded that platforms such as Google held only about a third of it. The other two thirds sat in independent apps, shops and services that had plenty of data but could not turn it into revenue. In 2013 he co-founded Moloco, short for Machine Learning Company, with engineers who had built similar systems inside large technology companies.

It looks as if big tech like Google has taken over the whole digital world, but when we did the numbers it was only a third.

Ikkjin Ahn · Co-founder and CEO, Moloco · Interview with The Korea Economic Daily, published in Korean; translated by Signet · 2026-01-04

The belief that sets Moloco apart is that one shared prediction engine, trained across many advertisers and millions of apps, can do for everyone else what in-house systems do for the largest platforms. The company calls that engine CARA, a compound ad recommendation architecture with six technical domains: campaign automation, supply, ad recommendations, bidding, creative and signals. By Moloco's own estimates it weighs more than a trillion ad opportunities a day, learns from more than 6 billion events a day, and redeploys updated models as often as every two hours. The Seoul machine learning posting puts the load at over 6 million bid requests a second, with predictions in under 7 milliseconds. The claim is that gains compound: better creative choices produce better training data, and richer supply data sharpens bidding.

Why now: phones, privacy and first-price auctions

Three changes made the bet timely. Smartphones multiplied the data and the ad slots; Ahn says watching people carry phones convinced him that the volume and variety of new data would open a new market. Privacy rules then pushed businesses toward their own customer data; in the 2021 funding announcement Ahn said it was increasingly critical for businesses to activate their own data as consumer privacy restrictions grew stricter. And most auctions in the app ecosystem now run as first-price auctions, where the winner pays exactly what it bid, so pricing each bid precisely is worth real money. Moloco also took its time. It says it spent six years building its machine learning and data infrastructure, and Korean coverage of its tenth anniversary dated serious commercial selling to 2018.

Setting the price of an ad is the hardest problem.

Donghwan Jeon · Co-founder and CTO, Moloco · Media briefing in Seoul before MOLOCON 25, reported in Korean; translated by Signet · 2025-06-12

One campaign through the engine

Take an illustrative app marketer at a Korean game publisher launching in the United States. The marketer picks the outcome that matters, such as a purchase, a deposit or a subscription, connects a mobile measurement partner such as AppsFlyer or Adjust, uploads creatives and sets a budget; the minimum for a new campaign is $300 a day. From then on CARA works impression by impression. For each ad request that arrives through more than 35 exchanges or Moloco's own SDK, it predicts how likely this user is to install, convert and keep spending, prices a bid within tens of milliseconds, and picks or assembles the creative. Results flow back through the measurement partner, and the models retrain. The marketer watches spend, installs and return in Moloco Ads Manager, down to publisher, placement and creative.

People still make the decisions the engine cannot. The marketer chooses the goal and the creative, and decides whether to trust the numbers. That last step is where Moloco's own staff come in. For Nexon in January 2026, Moloco's data scientists designed a randomized test with ghost bids so the publisher could see what its connected TV ads added beyond what attribution showed. On the retail side, retailers keep governance and creative review while Moloco handles targeting, product selection and bidding underneath.

Most figures in this chapter are Moloco's own internal estimates, each footnoted on its website. The practical test of the engine belongs to the customer: the strongest cases in this file are ones where a customer ran its own comparison, such as Nexon's incrementality test or Musinsa's comparison with other channels during its summer promotion.

In Seoul most of the open roles sit inside this engine: ranking and bidding models, the Ads Manager that marketers use, test automation and the CTV program. Two sit on the commerce media side, helping retailers trust the same engine with their own shoppers. Either way, the job is to make a prediction system's results believable to the people paying for them.

Understand the products and their customers

One engine, two businesses and a supply door

Moloco describes itself as one company with two businesses on the same AI system. The first and larger is Moloco Ads, a demand-side platform: app marketers use it to buy ad slots inside other apps, automatically, through real-time auctions. User acquisition and re-engagement campaigns run in one architecture, so signals from both feed the same models. The company says Moloco Ads can reach more than 2 billion people a day across more than 2.9 million independent apps, that 89% of its spend in the fourth quarter of 2025 went to video, interstitial and native formats, and that in 2025, 45 of the 50 highest-grossing mobile app publishers advertised with it. Its FAQ positions it beside Google and Meta rather than against them: those platforms sell mostly their own properties, while Moloco reaches the independent apps around them.

In April 2026 Moloco took the same engine into the living room with Performance CTV for app marketers. Each connected TV impression is optimized in real time toward an app outcome, and attribution runs through the advertiser's chosen measurement partner. In its launch announcement the company reported early results of up to 1.5 times higher return on investment on CTV than on mobile for campaigns running on both, and said about two thirds of users who installed after seeing a Moloco CTV ad did so within six hours. These are the company's own early figures.

The second business, Moloco Commerce Media, sells the engine to retailers and marketplaces so they can run their own ad business. Brands and sellers on the platform buy sponsored products, search ads, sponsored display and sponsored brands. The retailer can use Moloco's ready-made campaign manager, embed a widget in its seller portal, or build its own tool on Moloco's APIs. Each retailer's models are trained only on its own first-party data, and the documentation says data, training and inference stay in a silo per customer. Moloco says a retailer can go live in as little as six weeks, and that its retailers have reached ad revenue of 1% of gross merchandise value within the first year and 2% within two, with the strongest passing 3% within three. It competes with retail media technology that matches ads by keywords and fixed rules.

The third piece works on the supply side. Publishers install the Moloco SDK so Moloco's advertisers can bid directly on their ad slots, and so CARA can render richer formats and collect better signals. Moloco said in July 2025 that nearly 500 publishers used it, that it had become available through Google AdMob and Ad Manager, and that it was already a certified bidding partner in AppLovin's MAX and Unity's LevelPlay. Its SDK page says the number of publishers more than doubled during 2025.

Named customers and what each one measured

The clearest Korean case is Musinsa, the fashion platform. With the agency Madup it used Moloco Ads to bring back active, semi-active and inactive users, sending each group to its own event page through deep links, and then showed those returning users Product Ads powered by Moloco Commerce Media inside its app. During its largest summer promotion, cost per active session was 10% and 22% better than two other DSPs, video creatives were 2.5 times more efficient than images, and users attributed to both products had 66% higher average revenue per paying user than users attributed to neither. Moloco published the case in September 2025.

Nexon tested Performance CTV in January 2026 to see whether TV ads could bring new players to a live-service game. Moloco's data scientists split the audience into test and control groups and placed ghost bids for the control group, so both faced the same auctions. By Nexon's analysis, the incremental lift in new sign-ups was up to three times what attribution alone showed, and 1.6 times for returning users. In commerce media, W Concept, which launched its ad business with Moloco in 2023, saw ad spend as a share of gross merchandise value rise 2.6 times over 18 months to June 2026, a Moloco figure the retailer confirmed. Outside Korea, Scopely's Monopoly GO! drew more than 1 million installs through Moloco in its first 30 days and beat its return-on-ad-spend target by 2.6 times.

Who pays, and for what

Moloco earns money from two kinds of customer. App marketers pay for the ads that Moloco Ads buys on their behalf in real-time auctions, across independent apps and, since April 2026, connected TVs. They set a goal, such as installs, purchases or a target return on ad spend, and a new campaign must commit at least $300 a day. The more a marketer trusts the results, the more budget it moves in, which is why measurement is part of the product. Retailers and marketplaces are the second customer. Korean coverage in 2024 described Moloco Commerce Media as joint development in which Moloco takes a share of the retailer's ad revenue; a Moloco business development lead put it plainly at the time: Moloco earns only when the customer's ad business grows. On the supply side, publishers install the Moloco SDK so Moloco's advertisers can bid on their inventory, which Moloco says it offers without margin fees.

What has grown, and what each number measures

Moloco is private, so its numbers come from its own announcements and from Korean press. In April 2021 it said it had grown more than 100% a year and passed an annual net revenue run-rate of more than $100 million, when it raised $150 million in a Series C led by Tiger Global at a $1.5 billion valuation. In June 2023 it said revenue had grown more than fivefold from 2020 to 2022 and ended 2022 above $200 million. Korean press has since reported fuller figures: preliminary 2022 revenue of $239 million with operating profit of $85 million, then revenue of ₩496.4 billion in 2023 and ₩640.5 billion in 2024, with operating profit of ₩138.6 billion in 2024. In June 2025 Ahn said about 90% of revenue comes from outside Korea. A larger figure, about ₩1.5 trillion of ad transaction volume from a company presentation reported in November 2024, counts the media spend that passes through Moloco, which is a different measure from revenue.

The valuation record is shorter than the revenue record. The last value Moloco itself announced is more than $2.0 billion, set in June 2023 when Fidelity and Singapore's EDBI bought shares from existing holders; the company received no new money. Korean press has since put the figure higher, citing secondary trades of up to about ₩3.9 trillion between 2022 and 2024 and, in July 2026, an estimate of about ₩4 trillion; these are reports and estimates, not a priced round. The listing is the next test. In June 2025 Ahn said Moloco was preparing a Nasdaq listing as a milestone for an enterprise company, not to exit or raise money, and that it was looking for the best timing. Press reports said in January 2026 that Moloco was weighing an IPO, and in February that it had picked Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan to arrange it.

We are preparing a Nasdaq listing. We see it not as a goal of exit or fundraising, but as a milestone in establishing ourselves as an enterprise company in the global commerce media industry.

Ikkjin Ahn · Co-founder and CEO, Moloco · Media briefing in Seoul before MOLOCON 25, reported in Korean; translated by Signet · 2025-06-12

Where Moloco stands, and three risks

Moloco's own FAQ places it beside Google and Meta rather than against them: those platforms sell ads mostly on their own properties, and marketers typically run Moloco alongside them. Among independent ad platforms, the summary of Liftoff Mobile's June 2026 Nasdaq prospectus listed AppLovin, Unity, Moloco, Google, Meta and Amazon as key competitors, and Liftoff reported $685.7 million of revenue for 2025. The lines blur: the Moloco SDK is a certified bidding partner inside AppLovin's MAX and Unity's LevelPlay, so the same companies are partners on one side and rivals on another. In commerce media Moloco sells technology to retailers instead of running a retail network of its own, and in June 2025 Ahn said more than 60% of Korea's top 20 e-commerce companies used its AI engine.

Three risks matter for someone joining. First, signals can be taken away: privacy rules and app-store policies decide what data reaches a bidder, Ahn tied the company's thesis to stricter privacy in 2021, and the CARA page names sparse signal as one of the main problems the system was built for. Second, the largest rivals own their supply and data, while Moloco buys through more than 35 exchanges and through publishers it does not own. Third, the newer lines must carry the story to a listing: in 2024 Moloco said commerce media still earned less than Moloco Ads, CTV for app marketers launched only in April 2026, and the timing of an IPO depends on markets the company does not control.

Two habits help in an interview. Say revenue for the ₩640.5 billion and ad transaction volume for the ₩1.5 trillion, and say the $2.0 billion valuation came from a 2023 secondary sale. Then ask which line your team's results are counted in, Moloco Ads or commerce media, because that decides what a good quarter looks like.

Three engineers from Seoul National University

Moloco was founded by engineers, and it still describes itself that way. Four decisions that explain the company's shape

Four decisions explain how Moloco looks today. The first was where to compete: outside the walled gardens, in the independent apps that Google and Meta do not sell. The second was patience: the company says it spent six years building infrastructure and began selling in earnest in 2018. The third was profit before scale. Moloco said in mid-2023 that it had been profitable for 12 consecutive quarters, 13 by October and 14 by its tenth anniversary in December 2023; in June 2025 Ahn said the company stayed profitable even though more than half of its people work in research and development. The fourth was a second engine. A retail media platform was in beta with select customers in 2021 and became Moloco Commerce Media, followed by a streaming product, the SDK and, in 2026, Performance CTV.

Around the founders, Moloco has hired operators from the largest platforms. Sunil Rayan, who headed Google's global mobile app ads business and later ran Disney+ Hotstar, joined in 2022 as the first chief business officer and is general manager of Moloco Ads. Pat Copeland, who launched and scaled Sponsored Brands at Amazon, has led Moloco Commerce Media since April 2025. Tal Shaked, a co-founder of Google's Sibyl and TensorFlow Extended platforms, is chief AI officer. The board added Dawn Ostroff, formerly Spotify's chief content and advertising business officer, in April 2026, and also includes Kakao co-founder Jaebum Lee. For the Korea roles, the names that matter on the leadership page are Jaekyun Ahn, regional leader for Korea and Japan in Moloco Ads, and YiYoung Kim, head of business for Asia Pacific in commerce media.

We continue to grow quickly while remaining highly profitable and cash-flow positive.

How Moloco says it works and hires

The company publishes four values: lead with humility, an uncapped growth mindset, create real value, and go further together. Its careers page adds a portrait of the people it wants, whom it calls Molocans: deep technical fluency, curiosity that outlasts ego, ownership of hard problems, judgment in ambiguity, and thinking across systems rather than silos. Every Seoul posting ends with the same values and an interview policy: unless a round assesses AI use, Moloco asks candidates to answer without AI assistance. Inside the work it expects the opposite. A Seoul software engineering posting asks engineers to use AI coding tools as a force multiplier while knowing when to write the code themselves.

On the worry that headquarters decides and Seoul executes, the evidence points both ways. The company is headquartered in Menlo Park, and roughly nine tenths of revenue comes from outside Korea by Ahn's 2025 account. But the founders came out of Seoul National University, the Korean entity has existed since October 2014, and Seoul teams are hiring now to build the core bidding models and the Ads Manager. The Head of Strategic Growth, APAC leads a team that is primarily based in Seoul and reports to the vice president of business development for commerce media.

Why Korea? Why now?+

Korea is where Moloco's founders and much of its engineering come from rather than a market it entered later. The three co-founders studied at Seoul National University, the Korean entity dates from October 2014, Korean investors and strategic partners backed the company early, and the Seoul office hosts research and development, including hiring through the technical research personnel track. Korea also supplies a demanding e-commerce market for commerce media, where Moloco says more than 60% of the top 20 e-commerce companies use its engine, and Korean advertisers expanding abroad, which the Korea leader named as a focus for performance CTV in July 2026. Revenue is mostly earned elsewhere, about 90% outside Korea by the chief executive's 2025 account, so Seoul's weight rests on engineering and regional commerce media.

Understand the Korea opportunity

Why Korea: founders, engineers and a hub for Asia

Moloco did not come to Korea from outside. Its three co-founders studied at Seoul National University, and the company set up its Korean entity, Moloco Co., Ltd., in October 2014, about a year after its founding. Korean money backed it early: Korea Investment Partners was a Series A investor, and Korean press lists SK Telecom, GS Retail and LINE Games as strategic investors from 2017, with Krafton and LG Electronics joining in 2020. The Seoul office became an engineering base. A current Seoul posting refers to the Moloco Seoul R&D team, and the company also hires machine learning engineers there through Korea's technical research personnel track, an alternative military service for researchers with advanced degrees. When Moloco hired an Asia Pacific business head in November 2023, he called Korea one of its key strategic markets and the hub of the region.

With AI-based advertising technology, Moloco will be a partner for Korean companies entering the United States.

Jaekyun Ahn · Regional Leader, Korea & Japan, Moloco · Interview with Electronic Times, published in Korean; translated by Signet · 2026-07-06

Korea is a small share of revenue and a large share of the work. By Ahn's 2025 account about nine tenths of revenue comes from outside Korea. What Korea offers is engineers, a demanding commerce market, and Korean companies that want to grow abroad. Jaekyun Ahn, who joined as Korea country manager in November 2023 and is now regional leader for Korea and Japan, described that third role in July 2026: Moloco wants to help Korean companies enter the United States, with connected TV as a new door. The same interview cited a January 2026 analysis in which 94% of users who installed an app after a Moloco CTV ad had not seen a Moloco mobile ad in the previous 48 hours.

Customers and partners the sources name

The Korean customer list is long and dated. In November 2023 Jaekyun Ahn named Netmarble, Bitmango, TMON, GS Shop, Yogiyo and Yanolja as companies Moloco helps grow. At the tenth anniversary in December 2023, Ikkjin Ahn said Yogiyo's ad revenue rose by nearly 90% after adopting Moloco's solution and that ad-attributed transactions grew 3.5 times. Korean coverage in 2024 named GS and Kurly as commerce media customers, and in June 2025 Moloco said more than 60% of Korea's top 20 e-commerce companies used its engine; the same coverage named Olive Young, Musinsa, W Concept and Kurly. SK Telecom launched its ASUM 2.0 ad platform with Moloco in June 2024, combining SK Telecom's first-party data with Moloco's machine learning. On the game side, Nexon tested Performance CTV in January 2026, and Devsisters was reported to have beaten its return-on-ad-spend target by about 20 percentage points within three to four months. In January 2026 Incross, an SK Networks subsidiary, became an official agency partner.

The team and what the open roles say

The public Korea team is led by Jaekyun Ahn. Before Moloco he was a product lead at Toss, a founding member of Google's mobile app ads team, and held roles at Naver and BCG. In commerce media, the leadership page names YiYoung Kim as head of business for Asia Pacific, and press coverage in 2024 and 2025 named leads for Asia Pacific supply and for commerce media growth strategy. The postings name the Seoul teams: Ads Quality, Ads Platform, Moloco NEXT, Core TPM and commerce media business development. On 10 October 2026 the job board listed ten open Korea roles. Seven are engineering and science: Machine Learning Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer-Technical Research Personnel, Senior/Staff Applied Scientist, Software Engineer - Ads Experience, Staff Software Engineer, QA Engineer (1-Year Contract) and Software Engineer Intern (3 months). One is a Senior Technical Program Manager for CTV. Two grow commerce media: Head of Strategic Growth, APAC and Growth Manager - Advertiser & Agency (Commerce Media). Read together, Seoul builds and measures the engine, and grows the retail side across Asia Pacific.

On the worry that a Korea office could close in two years: the Seoul entity has run since 2014, the Machine Learning Engineer posting has stayed open since November 2023, and the Asia Pacific strategic growth team is primarily based in Seoul. The counterweight is that Korea is a small part of revenue, so the case for Seoul rests on its engineering output and on commerce media growth in the region.

If you join an engineering team, the first quarter is about one measurable change to a system that answers millions of auctions a second. If you join commerce media, it is about one retailer's ad business, measured as ad revenue against gross merchandise value. Each role has its own mock application below.

The next scene is taking shape.

Banks picked for an IPO

Press reports said Moloco chose Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan to arrange an initial public offering, two weeks after reports that it was weighing one.

Performance CTV for app marketers

Moloco extended Moloco Ads to connected TV, with each impression optimized to app outcomes and attribution through the marketer's measurement partner.

Global agency partner program

Moloco launched an agency partner program with more than a dozen founding partners across North America, EMEA, LATAM and APAC, including PMG, Dentsu UK&I, CyberZ and Opt.

More context on what comes next

Three threads in 2026

Read against the thesis, 2026 has three threads. The first is the listing. Press reports said in January that Moloco was weighing an IPO and in February that it had chosen Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan to arrange it; Ahn had framed a listing a year earlier as a milestone, not a fundraising event. In April the company added Dawn Ostroff, a former Spotify advertising executive, to its board, which Signet reads as governance being built for a public company.

New screens and new proof

The second thread is reach beyond the phone. In June 2025 Moloco said its next growth would come from cross-channel marketing across app, web and CTV, and that it was developing a separate web ad product. Performance CTV launched for app marketers on 15 April, Nexon's incrementality case followed in May, and in September Moloco's help center described FormatFill, which turns existing video and image creatives into template-based interactive ads inside Ads Manager. Moloco NEXT is incubating PASS, a performance advertising product for streaming providers built on the same AI infrastructure. The third thread is trust. Incross was named an official partner in Moloco's 2026 agency program in Korea in January; in August Moloco launched a global agency partner program with more than a dozen founding partners; and on 7 October IAB Europe named Moloco the first technology provider certified under its retail media measurement standards, after an independent audit by ABC UK.

What to watch

  • Whether a US listing filing appears, and how it splits revenue between Moloco Ads and commerce media.
  • Whether Korean advertisers such as Nexon and Devsisters move CTV from tests to steady budgets.
  • How fast Seoul hiring moves in Moloco NEXT, Ads Quality and commerce media growth.

For a candidate, these threads mean a period of more disclosure and more process. Teams that measure CTV, retail media and creative tools will be asked for results that hold up under audit, which favors people who can explain both the model and the measurement.

Their future. Your next chapter.

A LITTLE MORE CONTEXT

Understanding Moloco.

What does Moloco do?

Moloco builds one AI system, CARA, that decides which ad to show to whom and at what price, one impression at a time. It sells that engine to app marketers through Moloco Ads and to retailers and marketplaces through Moloco Commerce Media.

What is the opportunity in Korea?

Engineers in Seoul work on prediction and bidding models, the Ads Manager, test automation and Moloco NEXT; the commerce media roles advise retailers across Asia Pacific and bring advertisers and agencies onto their platforms.
