What you will do

Own the overall strategy and progress of Japan's compute infrastructure build-out.
Take accountability for coordinating workstreams including site selection, leasing, financing, energy, government relations, community engagement, construction, and operations.
Provide hands-on leadership to the in-country team and clear blockers as they come up.
Represent Anthropic in meetings with government officials, utilities, and the energy industry.
Build and maintain relationships within Japan's government and energy sector.
Track progress across parallel workstreams and flag risks early.

Strongly prefers a Japanese national with existing government and energy industry ties.
Learns new domains quickly and thinks in a structured way.
Communicates comfortably with senior government, utility, and industry stakeholders.
Can lead and coordinate teams without direct authority over them.
Stays organized and detail-oriented while managing several workstreams at once.
Has a background in energy, infrastructure, or a related field.

Experience with large-scale infrastructure or data center development is a plus.
Existing relationships with Japanese government bodies on energy, land use, or industrial development are a plus.
Experience managing capital-intensive projects is a plus.
Familiarity with the compute, cloud, or data center industry is a plus.
